How do you open old roped windows?

Question:

Answers:
Check to see if the window is painted shut, either on the inside or the outside. If so, slip something slim, like a strong putty knife, all around the window, inside and outside. Otherwise you will never open the window.

Just push the bottom sill or the top sill and it should come open then brace it open with a stick!
From the outside, use a pry bar and pry up on the window. beating on the top of the window will just break the window.
