How/Why does the Mr Clean Magic Eraser work?


Question:I bought a box a while back and havn't used it much, i'm afraid of how or why it cleans.that and the purpose for buying it was to get crayon off the wall, and it seemed that the texturized wall just tore the eraser up without much result towards the crayon.
