Dust Mites!! Aaaaarrrggghhhh?
Question:Can anyone tell me where i can get a full mattress cover (one that covers the whole mattress) to protect against dust mites and also any tips for getting rid of them?
thanks!!
Answers:
Make sure you vacuum your mattress at least once or twice a month, you can get mattress covers from Argos I think.
everytime you change your sheets you should vaccum your matress, i never seen a full cover and ive been looking for one for ages! i bloody hate dustmites!
Try somewhere like the mobility shop for a full waterproof one they had them when I wanted a full one for my student digs. If you don't want a full cover just an elasticated slip on the top then somewhere like Argos.
A few places you can get a mattress cover is at your local mattress store (Mattress Discounters, Mattress USA, etc.).
They always have them.
Or you can go to a storage place like Public Storage, they sell them too. They are with the moving stuff in the office.
Control of dust mites can be difficult, time-consuming and expensive.
Enclose mattresses, box springs and pillows in zippered allergen- and dust-proof covers.
Wash bedding materials, including pillow cases, sheets, blankets and mattress pads every other week in hot water (130 °F).
Eliminate or reduce fabric wall hangings such as tapestries or pennants.
Purchase stuffed toys that are machine washable.
Avoid using curtains, drapes or blinds on windows. Use plastic shades instead.
Replace upholstered furniture with wooden or plastic furniture.
Vacuum often with a vacuum cleaner provided with a high efficiency purifying air (HEPA) filtration system. Throw away vacuum bags after use because dust mites can leave the bag.
Installing HEPA filters on air conditioner or heater vents is not practical or necessary, and may actually increase mite problems. Dust mites cannot survive on the dust in the ducts, and the small holes of the filters will force air out of vents at a higher velocity, stirring up more dust than without filters.
Complete elimination of dust mites is unlikely.. Reducing humidity in the home by using a dehumidifier may help reduce populations, but reducing humidity levels in microclimates, such as in bed fibers or carpet fibers, is impossible. Chemical control is not necessary, nor will it have a lasting effect on dust mite populations.
Regular cleaning and vacuuming will have a greater impact.
Dustmites like moisture. Dont make your bed, turn the duvet back and leave bed open all day to air. Air pillows by an open window.
Sears they are the best there
Mattress Firm sells a cover gauranteed to never have dustmites, it also is waterproof and very durable, machine washable.
