I just steam cleaned the rugs and now they smell a bit mildew-ey?

Question:Is this normal or did I do something wrong? What can I do about it.

Answers:
It's normal they need all kinds of ventilation though the quicker they dry the better, an open window or fan will help it dry

they are not dry could be one problem. Get air moving in the house and use fans. If it is wool then you got them too wet and drying is a must or mildew will develope. If they are not wool then you should be ok as long as you get the carpet to dry well. If it doesnt smell "clean" like a soapy smell but more of a dirty smell, then they might not have cleaned thoroughly.
Spray Febreeze
you are using to much water. find some type of fragrance like cherry do it again but use less water. put the rugs outside and let them dry. if that don't work call your local stanely steemer or local steam cleaning service and ask for advice.
If they are not wall to wall carpet, you might try sprinkling baking soda on them and let them air out outside. If they are, some fabrezze, or rewash them with more air to dry them. Good luck!
they didn't get to dry properly. you'll have to steam clean your carpet again then open your windows. the breezes will dry your carpet
This happens when they have not had enough fresh air to dry properly, It would be wise to wash them again & also on a hot day,
