What's the secret to really great smelling laundry?

Question:I'm constantly coming across people who smell really great, like clean laundry, and I can't help but wonder why my laundry doesn't smell as good..

Any tips? I'm allergic to Tide, so I can't use that and I dont' have a dryer so it needs to be something that'll hold up to line-drying..

any tips?

Answers:
I use Gain washing powder and Gain fabric softner. If you hang your clothes to dry, the scent stays and last for days. Its the best combo for great smelling clothing. At least that is my opinion.

For extra great smelling advice, if you have a vehicle, slip a few of gain dryer sheets or any dryer sheet of your choice in and the heat from the sun warms the sheet same as putting it in a dryer. So the minute you open your car door it will have the great smell of freshness. And the smell will seep into your clothes as well. I have done this for years. Anyone who gets in my car loves the clean scent.

I use gain.....and tide
Not Joking here, but

there are two perfumes that are out of this world that make me smell like clean laundry:

CLEAN, AND FRESH LAUNDRY AT SEPHORA.

They are pricey but you will love the smell, and they are not strong at all. So wonderful, and the scent is 3-4 hours maximum.
Dreft. It comes in a pink box. It's made for infant clothes and diapers. It gets out ANYTHING and it smells light and fresh. Pricey, but good stuff.

Gain has WAAAAYYYYY more perfume than Tide. Smells very good, but I don't know how your skin would hold up.
Purex has a hypoallergenic product that still seems to make my wash smell good even though stating it is free of perfumes.
For whites, add alittle lemon juice. Smells great and for sun drying it makes whites brighter.
Also, my fiance works in automotive management and has problems with detergents. So it was tough to find something that work on oil stains. I can add alittle dish soap (Dawn's the best) and a small amount of automatic dishwash soap (granular) and it works great, plus smells good too. Windex is another spot remover trick that helps with the smell also.
You may just be allergic to Tide and there are other great products that you still may be able to use.
Possibly if you use granular Tide, you might be able to use liquid Tide with no problem.
Happy wash day!
Hang the clothes out to dry in the sunshine, I've found nothing artificial to compare.
Tide - there is nothing like the smell of tide and if at all passable hang your cloths out side to dry.... Nothing better then getting into a bed that has sheets that were dried out side......
