Can i put my tie in the washer machine?

Question:my work tie is disgusting and needs cleaning. is it okay to put it in the washer machine, and if not.whats the best way to clean it?

Answers:
I wouldn't suggest it. It's one of those 'delicate' items. They are usually dry cleaned. So unless you have faith in your washing machine, and your washing ability. I would suggest just taking it to the dry cleaners along with the suit you might be wearing with it. :D

It's gonna get effed up.
the best is hand wash.
Bright red tie and never washed before? Sure, just throw it in with your white shirts. Pink is in.
Really, throw it in an ice cream bucket and put in water and soap and hand wash and ring it and hang it. Just to be on the safe side.
hand wash in cool water...with woolite rinse well hang dry. Be careful - gentle if its silk
hand wash wool light air dry.
Get some "Woolite" and sink wash it by hand gently. Rinse it out and hang to dry.
what is the material? If you can't find the tag that tells you what it is made of, is it a thick coarse tie or is it light and silky like? The first one, thick and coarse, you can wash on gentle cycle but air dry it. If you are not sure, hand wash in cool, not cold, water. Use an old toothbrush to lightly scrub any spots or the whole thing if needed. Then, rinse in cool water and add about a fourth cup of vinegar. Let set about 1/2 hour then wring out gently and rinse again in clear cool water. Let air dry. If you think it is silk, take it to your dry cleaners and ask them to "wet clean" it for you. It will take some time to do a silk wet clean, if the tie is really dirty, it will need it. Hope this helps.
i stole this idea from a commercial of some sort.

use a plastic container with a sealing lid [tupperware]. put warm water and about 1 teaspoon of dish soap mix til bubbles appear put tie into this and seal shake it up real good and let it soak for a couple of hours, then shake it again real good .open and drain. rinse out the soapy water and fill with clean clear water put tie back in reseal and shake shake shake. open drain and hang to dry over a towel in the bathroom.

your welcome :)

I would hand wash it in the kitchen sink. Woolite and cold water. You can do it in the washer but use cold water and the delicate cycle.
