My garbage dispoal stiiiiinks!! Help!!?

Question:I use my garbage disposal... A LOT.
Even though there's no food in the drain... it still stinks!
Can you guys give me some ideas on HOW to clean it and WHAT to use?!

Answers:
Vinegar and baking soda will do the trick.

Bleach!
Put lemon pulp and juice in it and run it.
Run a couple trays of ice cubes through it. (This helps remove clinging bits of food that might be decaying in there.) Then grind lemon peels (or any citrus peels) and follow with lots and lots of hot water. If it's still smelling, call a serviceman to take it apart for you.
Orange or lemon peels usually do the trick.
Have you tried a mixture of white vinegar and hot water?
If you are on city sewer, I would recommend once a week throwing a small slice of lemon in and grinding it up. I used to do this when I was on sewer and never had a problem, plus it smells so good when you do it. The area fills w/ a lemony scent.

I have heard, though, that putting citrus rind in a disposal on septic is very harmful to the septic. Which asks another question. Are you on septic? If so, you should severly limit the use of your disposal. There is still a whole mindset that properties on septic shouldn't have a disposal at all. If you are on septic, there is a chance that the odor is coming from a full tank. Try getting it pumped.

Also, it may be a full disposal that may need to be replaced. This happens. They should be replaced every 10 years or so, maybe more often since you use yours frequently.
Grind up some lemon and lime rinds in it. Don't put onion skins in it.
VINEGAR it is good for lots of things. It will get rid of the stink & after about 20 min.s it will have a fresh smell.
i use bleach in mine or sometimes i put use coffee grounds in there that usually take the smell out.
Throw some baking soda in it, follow that up with some white vinegar, it will fizz. Then run some boiling water down it, should help some. Also, grinding up citris peels is supposed to help.
I would run a commercial drain cleaner that is safe for garbage disposers down it to clean out any residue in the drain and then periodically grind lemon peels to keep it smelling fresh. I also squirt a bit of lemon dish soap in the sink when I run the disposer.
lemon peels work the best and then grind them up.
crush up a bunch of ice cubes in it to clean and then pour bakingsoda in it and let it sit even if your not useing it.if that dont work grind a lot of toothpaste in it .i fish alot and clean them in the sink.my wife still loves me but cant stand the smell one or the other will work..or both..
I use this stuff once a week and it works great!

dump some spoiled milk in it and let it set for a few days
FIRST, RUN THE DISPOSAL WITH ABOUT A CUP OR TWO OF ICE IN IT. THEN AFTER IT GOES DOWN, TRY SOME ORANGE, LEMON, OR LIME PEALS.
