Problems with cleaner??

Question:I have recently employed a nanny to start in September, We arranged that she would get to know us by doing 4hrs a week as our house keeper/cleaner. I have come home and all she has achieved in 4 hours is she had cleaned the 2 bathrooms and part of the kitchen!! Am I being unreasonable? I could not believe it when I walked in and it looked no different, no other rooms had been touched. I have had to come home from work and clean myself after paying her for 4hrs work. I now don't want her to be my nanny either as she charges such a lot and for very little work..what should I do??

Answers:
Firstly I would tell her that you are not very happy with the amount of work that she has done in 4 hours. I would then be absolutely honest with her and say that you don't want her as a nanny as you don't think things will work out.

Simple!

Sack the lazy little b*tch!

You and your family SO deserve better!!

Don't you dare waste any more of your hard earned dosh!
How clean are the rooms? How dirty were they when she started?

Honestly it sounds to me as if you don't like her and are looking for a reason to get rid of her. I clean my house, myself so I know the quality of the job, every week. It still takes me an hour for the master bath, an hour for the kitchen, an hour for the other 2 baths. And this is cleaning them top to bottom every week. So, since it was her first time cleaning them it doesn't sound unreasonable to me. She doesn't have a routine down yet.
get rid of her before it gets worse and you're deeper in debt.
Depends how clean your house was. My mate's a cleaner and I remember her telling me that it can take a little longer than usual to give a really good clean the first couple of times. After that it's maintenance so it gets easier. Also maybe she's trying to get into a routine. Once you know a place you get done quicker. Give her a break.
Well, did she have the kids to take care of too? I am not saying this is an excuse. I have cleaned condos for a resort. We did spring cleaning. A 3 story, 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, big kitchen, living room, laundry room ... I always had it done in 5 hours. Not too hard to do if you work at it. I would find someone else. Or set up a camera just to see what it is she is doing for that time. If she is neglecting the house work, she may neglect the kids too. Good luck.
Hire a separate cleaning service to do your cleaning.
I agree with Jill Pinky to some extent; however, you were originally employing this person as a nanny to look after your children, weren't you? She perhaps wasn't expecting to have to clean your house! I'm wondering how big the rooms are in your house and would this house keeping/cleaning work be included in her contract as well as being a nanny to your children? It certainly sounds like it! Therefore, maybe she isn't asking too much money for the work involved. Do you have good references from her and have you contacted any of her referees? Have you sat down with the girl and asked her how she feels about working for you and explained exactly what you expect her to do - that includes details of what you want her to clean. How long does it take you to clean every room in your house? It takes me a full day to do all of the upstairs thoroughly, and then another full day to give everything downstairs a really good clean - things like tiles and skirting boards. These are the times when I listen to my music! I wash ornaments once a month. During our normal working week, and yes, I do have children, we just tidy up and wipe down. I wonder if you have really thought this through properly?
get rid shes clearly boneidle probably been sitting with her feet up shes a no-no
sounds like you've already answered this for yourslef, hun!
are you sure that you really want a stranger in your house, i think that your unsure that's why your not giving this girl a chance to see what she can achieve, 4 hours is a short period of time and i personally would not clean for you. do it yourself
She definitely could do more in four hours but if she's new to cleaning that might explain it. Don't go by hours - tell her what you want done (within reason), and get her to finish the jobs. If she takes too long, that's her problem.
