Is there a certain characteristic of leather which will make it secrete oil?
Question:I realize this sounds kind of weird. I have taken my old high school jacket out of the closet for a HS reunion and the leather sleeves have a sticky oily film on them. I haven't touched the jacket in years nor have I ever spilled anything on the leather. I can't seem to wash it off. I've tried soap and water but the oily, stickyness keeps coming back. Can anyone shed any light on this subject??

Are you sure it is real leather? Sometimes vinyl will kind of melt and turn oily after time, especially if it is stored in a hot or damp place., or if you cleaned it with a oil cleaner that will kind of melt the vinyl. Leather normally cracks and dries out. Sometimes mildew will form on it after time if it is in a damp place. Never seen it melt or turn oily though.
Call a leather clothing shoppe maybe JC Penneys OR Call the cleaners.
This is a first for me. I have always had it dry out and crack, but never oily. I would take it to the dry cleaners and see if you can have it cleaned.
