How to get blood out of clothes when blood has set for a while...?

Question:(warning: kinda gross)

i was running with this 100 % cotton t-shirt with a print on it and it made my left nipple bleed. the blood stain was on the shirt for about 1.5 weeks...i washed the shirt twice in the washing machine with warm water and detergent w/ color-safe bleach...that got rid of about 70% of the stain, but it's still obviously there...

is there anything else i can do to get the blood out or am i screwed? thanks for any responses...i appreciate it...

Answers:
The stain may be to old to clean out of the shirt.

When I deal with blood stains I use meat tenderiser, like Adolf's. It breaks down protein, that's how it tenderises tough meat and blood is a protein.

I make a thick paste, dab it on the stain and leave it on for an hour or two. Rinse with cool water and see if there's any reduction to the stain. Repeat if needed.

Hydrogen Peroxide also works on fresh stains.

Peroxcide....works like a dream and it is color safe.
my friend told me of this and I didn't belive her until I tried it
you may have to soak it for a bit . But it will come OUT!!
Try soaking the stain in Hydrogen peroxide. It really does a good job getting blood/blood stains out of things. Can't promise it will work on a stain that's set in for a week and a half but it's worth a shot. Try letting it soak over night.

Good luck!
Peroxide usually gets blood out. You sure the print didn't fade or run?
First off, the next time you get blood on ANY fabric, the best thing to use is Hydrogen Peroxide, pour it right on the stain and out it lifts. At this point you are probably out of luck because you have set the stain by drying it. However, try this... make a paste from lemon juice and salt. Using a toothbrush, scrub the spot in a circular motion , adding more lemon juice as you go. Then, add a spot of detergent, scrub that in, and re-launder the shirt. Good luck.
Ok.
Not screwed.
Listen up:
Mix a drop or 2 of Dawn dish stuff with 1/4 cup peroxide.
put the shirt in the sink and pour the mix over the stain, let sit for 15 min.
go over the spot with an old tooth brush or just rub together for a minute.
Stain will be gone.
I recommend "Shout" that comes in a spray bottle. I'm a girl and you know that we get our time of the month and it sometimes gets on our clothes (i know...gross, but yours is too) It always works for me, even if it has been sitting there for quite some time. Just spray it heavily on add liquid detergent and wash.
hydrogen peroxide, on whites only, once you dry it it may not work but it will do better than anything else.
with ice cold water and SALT, soak the shirt, remove from the water. Now add the salt, put plenty. normally if it´s a fresh blood stain it only takes a few min´s to remove but as this stain has set in I would suggest you leave it 10-20 min´s. Once you see the stain lifting, wash as normal, it might take a few turns doing this ,but it will come out,
when ever you have blood stain just wash in cold water some times its best to soak in cold water then wash in cold. Now that you have set the stain in soak in oxi-clean or use a Q tip with clorox bleach and spot it with bleach then wash it in soap and cold water.
Blood

Pre-soak in warm water at least 30 minutes. If stain remains, soak in lukewarm ammonia water (3 Tablespoons per gallon). Rinse. If stain remains, work in detergent, and wash, using bleach safe for fabric.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Can't tell what that stain is? Still want to remove it? Try this sure-fire remover: Mix a teaspoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a little cream of tartar or a dab of non-gel toothpaste. Rub the paste on the stain with a soft cloth. Rinse. The stain, whatever it was, should be gone.
Meat Tenderizer

Try a little tenderness to remove protein-based stains like milk, chocolate, and blood from clothes. For fresh wet stains, sprinkle on enough meat tenderizer to cover the area and let it sit for an hour. Then brush off the dried tenderizer and launder as usual. For stains that are already set, mix water and meat tenderizer to make a paste and rub it into the stain. Wait an hour before laundering as usual.
Older, set-in stains will often come out in the wash after being pretreated with a solution of 3 tablespoons white vinegar and 2 tablespoons liquid detergent in 1 quart (1 liter) warm water. Rub the solution into the stain, then blot it dry before washing.

Whether you nick yourself while shaving, or receive an unexpected scratch, it's important to treat the stains on your clothing as soon as possible; bloodstains are relatively easy to remove before they set but can be nearly impossible to wash out after 24 hours. If you can get to the stain before it sets, treat it by pouring full-strength white vinegar on the spot. Let it soak in for 5-10 minutes, then blot well with a cloth or towel. Repeat if necessary, then wash immediately

Good Luck !
It depends on how old the stain is, but I recommend regular hand soap. I have gotten many blood stains out this way.
Though I read this several years ago and can't remember my source, I've got this to work on several older stains (it's ALWAYS worked on new stains) -- but I can't promise that it'll get the stain out completely.

Soak the shirt in cold water -- as cold as you can get it (warm water SETS stains) -- and rub in some Head & Shoulders. If you have an old toothbrush handy, it really helps, but you don't NEED one. Then wash it as normal. You may have to do this a couple of times, but if most of the stain is already out, you'll probably get the rest of it this way. There's an enzyme in the shampoo that breaks down the protein in the blood, and this is supposed to loosen it from the fibres in the fabric.

Best of luck!
