What would happen if you handwash something that says dry clean only?
Question:Would it ruin my comforter and pillow cases if I hand wash and lat them flat to dry if they say dry clean only? What would happen if I did?
Answers:
get those dryell sheets. they work really well, and you can use them in your dryer.
It depends on what they are made from. Acetate and some silks and wool can be a problem. I hand wash everything that says dry clean only and the only problem I have had is with acetate - it shrank. I would think since you are talking about a comforter and pillow cases they should be fine to hand wash.
I agree with Amanda.
I hand washed alot of stuff, but I've also ruined alot of stuff that way.
It depends on how valuable it is to you.
I put all of my Dry Clean only items in the washer on the genital cycle with woollite and cold water. It's the dryer that shrinks your items not the washer.
Hope this helps.
probably not try one of those at home dry cleaning ..
That is fine to wash a dry clean only , here is a tip that will wash this comforter and pillow cases gently and effectively, use half a cup of Baby shampoo and gently squeeze suds through your comforter and pillow cases, if you lay flat to dry, you could have humidity in the air and this could cause mold or mildew to start on your comforter and pillowcases, you can put these in a low or delicate cycle in your dryer or hang to dry on a line. Good Luck !
Neither do I if its poly and cotton i would hand wash in warm water and wool wash and gently squeeze out excess water and hang on line to dry I only dry clean stuff like silk etc the main problem with cloths is they may shrink but with sheets and pillow cases if your gentle and careful i think they should be OK I just chuck my poly/cotton into the washing machine but i would rather hand wash your stuff first to see how it goes good luck
Fabric manufacturers put "Dry clean only" on stuff to protect themselves. That way, it you ruin it, you can't blame them. I'd check it for color fastness - dip a small portion in soapy water and see what happens. Alot of stuff that says dry clean only can be hand washed. Use Woolite to be on the safe side. After you lay it out to dry, put it in the dryer on air cycle with a couple of clean tennis balls to fluff it back up.
I usually wash my comforters. But be careful, if you do it in the washer, make sure your washer is big enough, or it may tear.
It is dry clean only due to the Cotton content...which will shrink...and you might have a color that fades or runs...making a mess of any design on the comforter...The dry cleaning kits work well...I would check you area and see if yo have a dry cleaners that offers cleaning by the pound...alot cheaper than regular..Good Luck
