How can I remove marker from the side of my book?
Question:Some kid wrote scribbles and his last name on the outer edge of the pages, opposite the binding, of my text book. It's a brand new book and there's no denying it was like that before. I'm trying to come up with ways of removing it, but it's written along almost every page. If I can't get rid of it before I return the book, I'll just ask him to pay for any fees allocated with the "damage." According to my science teacher, who apparently thoroughly analyzed it, it could be an excess of $50. I don't want to pay that much for something I didn't do, can anyone help me?

mr.clean will do the trick..lol
but it really does work, go to the store over the weekend ( like giant or superfresh) and in the cleaning section look for a sponge like thing called Mr.Clean.
My friend swears by the new Mr. Clean eraser thing. She said her daughter draws a lot and gets marker, etc on the table all the time and it removes that. It's a little white sponge looking thing.
Hand Sanitizer will remove ink.
I really doubt you'd have to pay more than a few dollars for ink on the text block of the book, but if you don't want to chance it, I think your best bet is to try a booksellers' trick. You'll have to put the pages of the book (not the hard covers) in a vice, or somehow clamp the entire edge of the book together very tightly. Then you take sandpaper, a very fine grit, and sand off the edge. There's probably an industrial paper cutter that could do the job, as well, but I wouldn't recommend trying it unless you have a friend who works at Kinko's and knows what they're doing.
If the sandpaper doesn't work, I guess I would just pay the fine and try to get the kid who scribbled pay for the damage.
Good luck!
