How do I clean carpet padding off hardwood floors?
Question:
Answers:
Is it stuck? Don't scrape it , unless you plan to have them resurfaced. I would spray warm soapy water on the Stuck down parts and get them to gently loosen.
Try a little oil, on a small area, vegetable or olive or canola. What ever you have in the house. See if that works.
I have recently discovered that oil will remove labels off of bottles. Beautifully. Plus the oil would not hurt the wood.
Spread a little oil over an area and let soak an hour or two.
Then check to see if it is letting loose. Good Luck.
I would suggest renting and useing a wood floor scruber with the proper pad. You can also get advise from Lowe's or any carpet staller/store.
Is it glued on? I would first try something plastic that wouldn't hurt the floors like a pancake flipper or similar household tool. For a huge area, the 24" plastic blade tool that you smooth wallpaper with might be easier. If it is glued, you might try using a hair dryer to soften it a little but don't overheat it or you could have a disaster. You might want to phone your local carpet store and just ask them what to do because they problably have done it a lot of times.
