How to wash a goose down-filled coat?

Question:I know there is a special detergent you must use for goose down. Can you get this detergent at a grocery store? What is it called? Also, can you use this detergent in a front-loading, high effeciency washing machine (a newer model)? Thanks!

Answers:
I worked in a Dry Cleaners for 4 years, and let me tell you a secret. it is BULL S!@#$!
There is no special detergent, or processing for down. We used to charge $20-$30 for down coats, when the maintenance is very standard.
You can put it through a regular wash cycle, but the trick is when your drying it.
This is going to sound silly but it works great. dry it on medium heat with you ready? Tennis Balls. thats right !
the tennis balls bounce around during tumbling, and actually fluff the feathers back up as it dries.
the Tennis balls are safe in the dryer because of their fabric coating. other types will melt, and not only ruin your clothes but your dryer.
If you just dry it plain, it will be fine but it wont be as full and puffy without the tennis balls. (3 balls work well)

only dry cleaner
