Silverware in the dishwasher - pointed up or down? - Why?
Question:
Answers:
for safety, I always point down. That reduces the risk of cutting or poking fingers with knives or forks.
I put all my silverware in pointed down except for sharp knives. Reasona being- you are removing them and putting them away without touching the part that you would put in your mouth or cut your food. Steak knives and sharpies I put in the very last cubbie- upwards- be careful!- because the points stick through the holes and sometime interfere with the spinner underneath. And since all the sharp things are all in one slot- I know to be more cautious with them.
silverware down: food from it washes off and some food might be in the basket and touching your fork
silverware up: silverware clean but as soon as you touch them they have germs
either way you put it into your silverware tray witch on dateline a while back tested and had alot of bacteria in peoples trays. so does it matter as long as you cant see crusted food on it who cares. lol
I would say "down" so that you don't cut yourself when you take them out.
Pointed down because you don't want to stab yourself when you pick them up. You also don't want someone manhandling the eating part.
Pointed up - so the don't get water spots - except knives - points down so you don't get stuck.
down, only b/c you dont want to stab your hand with the knife or fork, taking them out.
I say down, because the spayer is underneath the tray and will get all the silverware cleaned., except for knives which I point upwards, but in the back cubby. I am just extra careful when I take knives out, so I don't get cut. I say up for knives so that they don't get stuck in the little squares of silverware tray, which could dull them, or cut the tray.
