How do you remove oil base paint from indoor carpet ?
Question:My daughter was painting on canvas with oil based paint and got some paint on the carpet. Any suggestions on how to safely remove it would be appreciated.

try washing it out with mild cleaner if that does not work may have to cut out piece and glue back in
in the past i have used turpentine to remove oil based paint from carpet. test in a hidden area (inside the closet) to make sure the carpet can handle it first. put the turpentine on a dry cloth and blot the stain. continue doing this (using a clean part on the cloth each time) until the stain is gone. it will stink!! once the stain is gone, pour dish soap directly onto the carpet, and work it around (to remove the oil). then dab with a clean wet sponge to remove the soap. if all else fails, get a throw rug to cover the spot!

There is a product out there called "Goof-Off" sold at Home Depot, Low's, or any paint store.
Once you spray it on you can get the bulk of it up with a paper towel. Then spray once more for set in stains and scrub with a plastic bristle brush until gone.
However, the product has a lasting oil based smell, so I also recommend using "Resolve" after the paint is up. This will remove any remaining stain or smell in the carpet.

Try using mineral spirits in a spray bottle...squirt the area and then PUSH the carpet in one direction wwith a painters 5-way tool or a flat putty knife. Dab up what rises with a clean rag and repeat the process in all directions.
If that clears up the paint, you can simply wash it out with soap and water to bring it back to normal.
