Maggots in my living room?
Question:i found maggots under my carpet in my living room how will i kill them and also do i need to buy a new carpet please someone help me its reali mingin
Answers:
You need to find out where they are coming from, if they are under the carpet then my guess is that something has gotten under the floor boards and died, maybe a mouse or something, you'll need to find it and get rid of it, then just sprinkle something on and under the carpet to kill any remaining maggots (you'll get something in any hardware shop), and hoover them up. Although they look horrible the maggots themselves don't spread anything nasty, so the most you'll need to do is hoover and if you're really grossed out you could shampoo the carpet.
try cleaning and i guess your leaving food everywhere.
try cleaning up your act 1st
Who are you... Stig of the Dump? Who has maggots in their house?
Yes i recommend you get a new carpet after you have given the place a good scrub - get some fly-spray too
if you can afford it honey - get a new carpet...if you just clean the old one..you still wont have peace of mind!
oh dear! Get some advice from pest control! Good luck sweet
try not to drop to much food on floor
WHAT THE.ANYWAY IF YOU HAVE FLOOR BOARDS THERE COULD BE SOMETHING UNDER THERE, AS YOU AVE TO WORK OUT HOW THEY GOT THERE IN THERE FIRST PLACE.ONCE YOU FIGURE THAT OUT DO WHAT THE OTHER ANSWERS SAY.CLEAN UP, NEW CARPET.DOES IT NOT SMELL?
Get some fly spray this will kill them but you need to find out why they were there. Have you dropped food or faeces in the area? Once you have given the area a proper clean using bleach you can assess whether the carpet can be saved. A good carpet shampoo will clean the carpet if you can't afford new.
Are you living abroad? Did you or someone drop food and not know.? If you are living abroad that might be the carpet beetle that eats up the carpet in no time at all. You should get the floor scrubbed first with a disinfectant then put down tobacco leaves before you put the new carpet down. If you have no disinfectant then use salt.that will do it and dont feel sorry for the blighters either!
Absolutely get a new carpet - it's probably infested with them by now. Or pull up the carpets and go with rugs or something. Ick!
there must be some old food dropped on floor or something that has caused them? if it was me id rip the carpet up scrub and disinfect the floor and get a new carpet, or at least a rug or 2 until u can afford a carpet
hope u manage to get rid!!
is the sub floor wet did they come from under the house is there mold as well that is just nasty I would do a good scrub and find out were they came from and yes get rid of the carpet use bleach on the sub floor if it is wet then you may need to get it replaced as well
Are you 100% sure they are maggots?
Sounds like it might be larder beetle or carpet beetle larvae.
Just google images. If that's what it turns out to be your local council should help; they're a booger to get rid of.
How long have you lived there,if not long ensure there is no body under floorboards before boarding up house and fleeing country.
Hmm they could be coming from a wet sub flooring...use wasp spray to kill them and then use clorox on the area.. Good Luck!
use rubber gloves and sweep them all up, throw them away in a different garbage bag, clean your carpet and then look for houseflies, they are the ones that found the food under your carpet and laid eggs, that turned into maggots. get rid of the houseflies too. happy hunting.
Maggots live at a food source until they are big enough to pupate, then they crawl off to find a safe place for this. They can't breed until they turn into flies. So just vacuum up the maggots and get rid of them, then look for the food source that they came from. It could be a dead animal or anything. Insecticide is not recommended for maggots.
You can get a fly trap with an attractant and hang it outside to reduce the number of flies.
Hi, i have found maggots on my carpet too so i know it's easy to happen and not your fault!
mine turned out to be from a dead mouse, you do need to look carefully for what they have grown in!! like the others say hoovering or sweeping them is fine, but i would also recommend getting a pair of rubber gloves on and really going through the area of carpet you found them in carefully as they tend to try and hide down in the bottom of the carpet away from the light.
once i had cleared all mine away and located and got rid of the mouse i had no further problem.
There may be a dead mouse or rat nearby if they are maggots.I had a similar problem .I live down by a river and a rat got into the loft and died maggots formed and came through the ceiling light into the bed----a real nightmare. You will have to sweep them up.There is also a bug that is like a maggot which eats carpet. It is white but thinner than a maggot and the council will remove these for you
maybe there's a rotting body under your floorboards....human body :)
yummm rotting human flesh..
Maggots only Live on Dead Animals. Flies come in and lay eggs on the flesh within a set time frame and then hatch. Its like clockwork and its one of the main things that Forensic Detectives use to find out the day of death. As you have no flies, then the thing under your floor has been there a few days. Get a Pest Control Officer to investigate what it is. It could be a Rat (Ratus Ratus) or some other vermin. As you have not reported a smell, the flesh has not started to decompose and so you need to act fast before this happens.
Friend had same problem. Was dead bird inside old chimney breast causing maggots. had to remove carpet & throw away & get pest control in to eradicate maggots & eggs. So sorry for you, know how bad friends home was.
Other people have given you advice re finding out why they are there, but the maggots themselves are not dangerous, maggots can turn into flys so you don't want them, but hospitals are using maggots on peoples skin, to clean them of disease. In the UK they have found them very useful.
Here is a very good site suggesting what to do about maggots.

Do you have pets, if so it could be a dead mouse gone off. or it could be a small dead insect. the maggots will turn into flies. all you can do is hoover them up take the carpet up and try and find out where they came from. it happened to me, i just hoovered them up as they were coming out of the skirting board.
Move out. Sell up and start over, But don't move to Cambridgeshire!
If there is no living material in your capet there will be no maggots. They live only whilst they can have access to...ewwww I'm grossing myself out!
Spray everything with eucalyptus oil diluted with water in a spray bottle. Then vaccuum relentlessly.
If it was me, I'd rip up the carpet and polish the floor.
unless they are moth maggots they would be eating the carpet anyway so chuck it out, also do you have cats? they couldve brought in a mouse or part of one and its embedded in the carpet, and you haven't noticed it! either way you will have to de infest your living room, lose the carpet and disinfect everywhere good luck!
i'm afraid you'll have to find out why they are getting in your house and you will have to replace your carpet. your carpet has something that they like or else they wouldn't be living under it
