How can I get rid of the sour smell in my washer?
Question:I have washed an empty load with just a box of baking soda and hot water and that didn't work. I also use bleach in my whites every time I was, but I just can't get rid of the smell.
Answers:
If you have a front loader there is a small drain hole in the front rubber sleeve just inside the door at the bottom, if it gets plugged with lint it will hold water. should be two small holes in the rubber. just clean them out.
second always leave your washer door open when not in use to prevent sour water.
if your washer is a top loader then someone will need to pull the agitator and check the drain look for lint in it too!
Quick Ques ton do you have a sink or drain in your laundry room that you never use? if so remember to run a little water in it ever so often due to dehydration of the pee trap {little curved pipe under sink}. if you allow this pee trap to dehydrate sewer gas can migrate back up that pipe from the septic system. uggghh! not good!
Hope this helps
Sure you don't have a dead animal in there somewhere?
The Rat
Maybe it's the laundry room that needs to be cleaned up throughly and not your washer.
not sure if this will work. I use white vinegar to get the smell out of my coffee pot (when i had one LOL) and dishwasher.
The odor may be caused by the water. Suggest you contact the engineering service dept of your city. I'm sure you are not the only one with that problem.
Try leaving the door open between washings and let it dry out.
change your laundry detergent..Buy an expensive brand
Every 5th or 6th wash, do a rinse cycle ,add
500mls, or 1cup of plain white vinegar. I
buy the cheapest generic vinegar in a 1 litre
bottle, this also cleans out any lint that may be
trapped in your machines innards. I use half fill
to save water. Also after every wash, wipe inside
the machine with a dry cloth, get into as many
nooks etc you can reach, also my agitator comes
out, does yours, look in your instruction book, I clean mine about once a month. Good luck.
