How do you find a maid?
Question:I don't want to use a MerryMaid service, but find a local person.
Answers:
Depends what you mean by a "maid". First you need specify the duties...for instance."I need a housekeeper to clean my home".or "I need someone to live in and take care of cleaning and cooking". Cause I know you can drop off your laundry at the laundromat yourself.
Ok, so once you've decided exactly what you need then spread the word at the church where you attend. There are many women who have children who go to school during the day, or older women without children who are looking for extra pin money who know how to do the job you need very well and would be willing to help you out.
You need to set down a list of things you need done, do some interviews, and contract with them (and give them a copy of the contract) which indicates starting date, what jobs need to be done and when, what pay, and open ended contract unless either party decides to end it. If you don't know them well ask them to fill out an application for the position and at the bottom say you will be checking their credit and asking neighbors and such about them. You can always have them cook or clean for you once and see how they do. Be sure to have surveilance cameras running when they are in your home for your own benefit.
You can always put a notice in the newspaper, however personal referrals from friends and family would be better.
Look in the yellow pages, ask neighbors, look on bulletin boards in local restaurants and other public venues.
