Does hairspray really take out ink stains?

Question:One friend of mine says it works, and my neighbor tells me it really doesn't all that well. Does it really remove stains? Or does it not work best on certain materials? I heard when you do it, you spray the hair spray on the material, then put it in the wash, maybe my neighbor is just doing it wrong?

Answers:
it sure does work, spray it on there, it may look worse at first but then put some tide on it and let it sit for about 30 min, make sure you use a lot of spray on it, then wash in cold.

I've heard it did but then they say peroxide takes out blood stains but no luck for me--maybe the blood stain was in too long
If the ink is fresh it should work. If the item has already gone through the dryer it won't work.
Yes
go for it!, as Matsystud mentioned. It does the job I tried it a on white blouse with black ink spilled on it and it worked.
It will if you use a lot of it. The ink will appear as if it is spreading, so just keep on spraying until it disappears. I keep a cheap brand on hand, it doesn't seem to matter what kind of hairspray is used.
Yes it sure does! Before you wash it spray it on the stain. Then throw it in the wash and wash it with the clothes right away. Comes right out. :)

I'm still trying to figure out how to get it out of my couch though.
Hand Sanitizer also works
It is the alcohol in the hairspray that removes the ink. Use rubbing alcohol on the spot, and blot it up. After you remove as much as you can this way, wash it item in the washer machine with bleach.
It may work well on some fabrics but should not be used as a general rule of thumb. If used on leather it may make matters much worse to the point where it then cannot be fixed successfully.
