How to make a good fabric/ upholstry cleaner?


Question:Does anyone know any recipies to make a good fabric cleaner? My sofa really needs a good clean I have tried the normal upholstry cleaners but did not do alot of good. Any ideas anyone????

i used to have a suede type sofa and it got grubby so i tried a bit of washing up liquid and water it came up a treat and its not too harsh and inexpensive.
