What do you know about cleaning with less chemicals such as baking soda?
Question:
Answers:
Baking Soda is a natural product that’s an inexpensive yet effective all natural cleaner and deodorizer. Mixed with a small amount of water the baking soda paste can be used to scrub stubborn stains from most any surfaces. It’s also a great natural teeth cleaner and whitener as well as a natural deodorizer in closets, refrigerators and freezers.
Another natural product that poses no chemical or toxic harm to your family, vinegar is a natural cleaning solution that can be used as an all-purpose cleaner for most any household cleaning jobs.
(NOTE: Always test a small area if you have any doubt or concern about the surface you plan to apply vinegar/water to.)
With an equal mix of vinegar to water, its a great cleaner for floors, kitchen cabinets, countertops, sinks, appliances and the inside of your refrigerator.
Vinegar is also an effective natural cleaner for the bathroom. Its great for cleaning through soap scum and stubborn hard water stains in sinks and toilets. Again, test on tile and/or grout areas before use. You can also use vinegar to achieve a streak-free cleaning on all mirrors and glass surfaces.
Of course, organic produce is always the best choice, but when it’s the Dirty Dozen, or nothing, vinegar can help. That’s right! A few tablespoons of vinegar to a sink or bucket full of water, washes away pesticides, chemicals and germs from non-organic fruits and vegetables. Soak the produce for 15-30 minutes before using.
Lemon
And the third natural cleaning solution I found many household cleaning tasks for is lemon. It’s natural, smells great and combined with baking soda is a very effective cleaner.
Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle it with baking soda and you have an all natural scrubbing solution for dishes, countertops, stubborn stains and soap scums. Lemon also cleans brass and copper and when combined with olive oil can be used on wood as an all natural furniture cleaner.
go to arm n hammer . com they have loads and loads of tips for cleaning with BS
I've found vinegar works better than any chemical cleaner. It leaves no streaks or residue. Buy the malt (acetic acid) type, not the expensive wine or cider vinegar.
Natural products are the way to go. The FDA does NOT require companies to disclose the ingredients in cleaning products, so you never know what you're getting.
I use a vinegar and water solution (2 parts water to 1 part vinegar) to clean all windows and countertops. I also have "recipes" for natural furniture polish (vinegar, water, a little bit of olive oil, essential oils for natural fragrance). I even have a recipe for natural laundry detergent.
To clean my stove--range and oven--I sprinkle a little baking soda on it and then spray some vinegar on it... I let it sit a minute and then use a little good old fashioned elbow grease to wipe it clean. It works well and the best part? No toxic chemicals!
You can use those Mr. Clean "Magic Erasers." They work SO well, you wont' believe your eyes. You do not need to use ANY chemicals whatsoever with these erasers. You have to try them to see it for yourself!
I use Borax for a LOT of cleaning. It also kills fleas (just sprinkle on carpet, furniture, pets bedding etc, rub in, let sit for 7 days, then vacuum). I use it in my shower, sinks, laundry, etc.
I use Vinegar for my dishwasher, washing machine, etc. There are a 1001 uses for vinegar.
Baking Soda is good for the fridge and freezer. Really helps to eliminate odors etc.
proxide also takes stains out
Baking soda is a chemical - so is vinegar (I think vinegar is called acetic acid in chemistry labs..) but they are simpler and less adulterated, probably, than the commercial cleaning mixtures. Baking soda is good to use whenever you need a mild abrasive. If you have a stain that won't come off of something, try rubbing with some baking soda and water. Rinse and then reapply until the stain is 'scraped off' with the mild abrasive soda.
