Ok, this is GROSS, but I have found three HUGE cockroaches in my new house?
Question:I keep my house SPOTLESS, and it was empty for about two months before I moved in, in March. I live in a townhouse, so could it be coming from my neightbors? How do I kill them?
Answers:
As the previous answerer noted, these roaches are coming into your home for water and for shade. They are not like German cockroaches that seek out humans as a food source. Seal all the cracks and crevices in your townhouse, this includes where the plumbing comes from the walls. The hardware stores sell a foam spray that is made for this purpose. Put out roach powder behind all your appliances and under the furniture where kids and pets can't get to it. Combat makes a roach bait for these huge roaches that works very well.
Greenlight makes a very effective powder that you can put around the outside of your home to prevent new entries.
Those huge cockroaches are wood roaches and come from outside to the inside looking for water it has nothing to do with cleaning your house spray poison around your thresholds of your house.
Contact the condo management, and report the issue.
How it is handled is dependent on the rules you agreed to before you moved in.
Cockroaches can actually be carried into your home in a coat or jacket! And they can most certainly be coming from the neighbor. Maybe the neighbor recently had his/her home fumigated and they are running to the nearest shelter. Or maybe the neighbor in your townhouse is the cause. You really need to call a professional exterminator - theyre really not as expensive as you think. If you rent, bill the landlord. But you really do need to do it now, cuz they multiply quickly and dont leave real easily either.
You had better hope that they are from your neighbors, if not then they are nested in your walls from the previous owners. They lay eggs for life, and are a bear to get rid of. Call the exterminator if you can afford it. If not, then buy some roach traps and other department store roach treatments, but if you see roaches after that, then make a way to get an exterminator
If you have seen three there are probably a lot more. However your house sounds wonderful so don.t blame yourself. If indeed you are in a townhouse with shared walls etc. You probably have a home owners association or governing board of some sort. In the long run, when you are part of an association, the association is responsible for pest control. Talk to your neighbors and find out if they are having the same problem. If so, approach the association and request a pest control expert. No expense to you and a professional solution. I noticed the other answer said that the roaches were wood roaches. I am unfamiliar with this type of roach and I guess this is possible. It still does not negate the associations responsibility. Good luck.
Those big roaches are called American Cockroaches. They do not build the massive indoor nests like German Cockroaches do. They come in from the outdoors so making sure to rake away leaves that are near the house is a small step that will help.
Spread Borax around the perimeter of your home. This happened in an apartment building my cousin owns in Florida.
The borax worked like a charm to keep those bugers out.
