I suppose you just try to get over the X and start removing the junk left there. Bag or box and take it to a salvation army or good will where someone can use it. The get on a schedule to clean up one room at a time and stay with it until finished.
Have a friend help you and sort things out. Schedule your day so that you HAVE to do housekeeping.
Ask someone to be your cleaning buddy. If the thought of throwing anything away makes you really uncomfortable, you may be a hoarder. It's a pretty common problem which is a cousin of obsessive compulsive disorder. See your doctor and tell him you have hoarding tendencies and he'll get you started on antidepressants which will solve this problem with ease.
It's just a simple chemical imbalance.
have a friend or family member who you enjoy hanging out with come over and help you sort threw your stuff. Start with the stuff you have not used for 6 months to a year and go from there. I would suggest putting your ex's stuff in a box and putting it away in a closet if you are not ready to get rid of it yet.
