What is the best way to get a bad smell out of leather sandals?
Question:I have a pair of leather sandals that I really like, and I don't wear socks with them. As a result, after I've worn them for a while they start to smell bad...is there any way to clean them to prevent this from happening again? I have other sandals that this has happened to, and I don't want to just keep having to buy more. I've tried spraying Febreeze on them, but that doesn't work. Thanks in advance for your answers.
Answers:
Find a box with a lid and put the stinky sandals in the box with an open plastic container of activated charcoal, close the box and leave it for a few days. You could also use baking soda, but it won't work as well and as quickly at absorbing sweaty foot odor. As for preventing it in the first place, realize that leather breathes and your foot sweat is being absorbed into the leather. Use deoderant soap on your feet when you shower and either foot powder or spray on your feet prior to wearing leather footwear with no socks.
Use some leather cleaner, you can usually find them at a furniture store and that should do the trick. ;)
maybe put on some foot powder on your feet.
you might want to let them sot out in the sun for a few days that helps eliminate odors
I have always thrown my leather athletic shoes in the washer - figure I had nothing to lose - and they come out just fine - need about half an hour on my feet to get back into shape. I carried this one step farther and laundered a leather jacket - with the cost of cleaning it I could have bought a new one on sale - same results - little stiffer but that works out in time.
