Has anyone used regular detergent in high efficiency washers?

Question:If so how did it do and how much did you use? I have heard that you use much less then normal machines.

Answers:
I use regular laundry detergent in ours, I just use about half as much as I used to for the old top-loading machine. The directions said this was ok. I use liquid detergent, and sometimes pour some borax into the dispenser also.

You do use much less than regular machines, but DO NOT DO EVEN THAT. Regular detergent is very damaging to an he machine.
Yes, I use Cheer. About a tablespoon does an average load. My repairman told me if you get a scum build up on the glass of the door, you'll know you are using too much. It's nice how long a box of detergent lasts. I hardly ever buy it anymore. Our clothes come out fresh and clean too!
