How do I get the smell out of area rug from stinky pad?
Question:I bought new pads for new wool area rugs last fall and then left for winter in a warmer clime. Now the room smells so bad we took the expensive rugs out to the deck. We tossed the rubber pads. How can I get the terrible rubber smell out of the rugs? I've got the little Nature's tubs sitting around and I spray the backs daily with Fabreeze Extra. I also spray the air with Neutra Air. It's been three weeks and then still stink so bad it's nauseating.
Answers:
squeeze a lemon, put juice in a pint of water and spray it all over, its a great neutralizer, may take a few gos say every 2 days until gone
wash them.
Having a cat with a bad bladder I am very familiar with getting the small out of carpet padding.
Sprays and baking soda work for a short time, putting a plastic layer beween the carpet and pad helps, but the sure fire way is to replace the section of pad with new then clean the carpet several times with a good quailty carpet cleaing machine.
