Can tailors increase the waist and pant seam?

Question:I was wondering is it possible for tailors to make your pants bigger?

Answers:
Yes, it's possible as long as there is enough extra material (look at where it's sewn together in those spots. there is generally material left beyond where it has been sewn). I worked at a drycleaner/tailor place - that's how I know

If the material exists, then the tailor can let the pant out. Its not possible with most ready made pants, not enough material.
Look at the back center seam of the pants, the one that goes over your butt crack. Better quality dress pants have some extra fabric in there that can be let out an inch or so.If there is extra fabric (more than 1/2 inch or so) it may be possible. If done carefully it won't be too noticeable, unless the pants are old. Then it seems to be more noticeable. So the answer is sometimes, depending on how the pants were made. It may be easier to make yourself smaller, if it's an ongoing problem.
Isnt that what keeps them in business?
