How can I get rid of garbage disposal/sink odors?

Question:My sink and garbage disposal smells. I run my disposal every day, and I also put liquid dishwash soap down it, and Lysol liquid occasionally. What causes the odor and how can I get rid of it?

Answers:
mine stinks too...there is cleaner you can buy (near the dish soap at Wal Martt)...or try putting pieces of lemon down there and turning the disposal on. Also, I read 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 c white vinegar have a chemical reaction that cleans it out, haven't tried it yet.

Try baking soda
BAKING SODA AND HOT WATER AND LEAVE IT TO SOAK FOR AWHILE. NAMASTE
the smell is just nasty old food sitting in the pipes and is now rotting. we alway throw half a lemon down the disposal once a week it gives it a lemony smell and the lemon peel will actually help sharpen the blade of the disposal
I would try putting an oragne in the disposal and running it. It works with mine. You might want to cut it up a little though.
Try orange peals or lemon the oil in the peal can also be bought .
I use the lemon trick too...works for me!
I use a product called Plink. It is little yellow balls of some concentrated freshener. You run warm water at a slow trickle and then pop down one of those Plink balls, turn on the disposal and voila, it smells all fresh and citrusy. Or, if you can't find that brand try using lemon rinds, orange rinds or even grapefruit rinds ground up by your garbage disposal. The only other thing I can think of is you might have a buildup on your plumbing pipes of goop from all that has gone down there. Then you might want to try one of those slow drain cleaners, but check to see if you can put it down a garbage disposer first!
Try baking soda with a little hydrogen peroxide, Ice cubes and lemon peels and salt.
orange peelings
The black rubber ring that fits inside the drain is removable take it out and use a round toilet brush that is to only be used for the sink. Put some soft scrub or comet just about any good cleaner that is thick or pasty and scrubb it 2-3 times a month. It just needs to be cleaned like any other thing in your house.
I use my expired baking soda and a cut up lemon. It works on those smelly odors.
