My husband works at a hospital and he said that they did a test on the "Sars" virus and found that people using the toilet with Sars who didn't close the lid when flushing it - the virus became airborne from the flush into the air around the toilet and was there, alive for quite some time! YUK!
I'm a girl and I leave it down but I don't care if it is left up or down, just clean and drip free please!

Always leave it down because I'm a girl. Mel G brought up a good point about leaving the lid down when you flush...if you want to know why just read up on aerosolization...now that's some nasty crap. ;) (pun intended)
My roommate and I are both guys, so we don't really care. Is it really that much trouble to lift the seat or to lower it as necessary?
Definitely down fpr both seats & cover- it's a whole lot more hygenic & good juju as well!
its more sanitary to leave both the seat AND the lid down. whether you live in a male or female dominated house, with the lid down both sexes would share the toilet responsibility and respectability. Besides, its more sanitary to keep the lid down. And if you've got children around, something may get dropped in there.

I leave it down, my brother who is staying with me for awhile leaves it up.
Always down in our house. Otherwise things could fall in by accident. Also, our cat is very curious and he'd fall in!
