I have one of the old Feather pillows can it be washed, and dried?
Question:I have heard from some of the old folks that you can`t wash a feather pillow. Does anyone know the truth for sure?
Answers:
Yes, feather and down pillows can be cleaned in your machine, but make sure there are no slits or tears in the covers and that the ticking is secure. For balance, load two pillows at a time and use only a small amount of detergent. Set the machine on the delicate cycle and give the pillows a second rinse. Spin them a few times, too, because they hold alot of water.
For drying, place them in the dryer with several clean tennis balls, which will aid in the fluffing process. It's also a good idea to take them out periodically and fluff by hand; use your fingers to break up any clumps. Pillows will take longer to dry than a normal load of clothes. If they have a musty smell, set them in the sun for a couple of hours.
I throw mine in the dryer with a dryer sheet on cool every once in awile just to fluff and refresh them
If you put 3 tennis balls in the dryer with your feather pillow they will help it keep it's shape it also works for comforters , foam pillows and jackets. Make sure that the dryer is on low heat delicate cycle. I saw it on How clean is your house and I tryed it with my own pillows and it works. I gave the ball to my dog after.
yes u can wash it on yhe gentle cycle. try tying it into a large pillowcase. and u can try drying on a low or fluff cycle. or u can air dry it but that will take longer.
If it is old just worry about the ticking, the cover. If you do wash it,fill the machine and let the pillow soak in the soapy water then drain and spin.Fill to rinse and add softener to the pillow and let sit again. Then to dry it put it in the dryer with some tennis balls or sneakers. After you think it is dry,put it in front of a fan and turn often to make sure.Let it fan dry for a day or two, then fluff again in dryer...
on the gentle cycle wash and dry
