What are your secrets...?
Question:...for making your home smell nice?
My favorite is Yankee Candles "Home Sweet Home", but who can afford it?
Anyone have any tips or tricks to affordable ways to keep your home smelling fresh?
Because of allergies, I can't use the standard air freshener products because of the chemicals.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can buy Wintergreen Oil (or any oil scent you like) at a health store and put a few drops on cotton balls and stash them in plants, decorative pieces, etc. around the house.
laundry fresh as drawer liners
car air freshners to aerate cupboards
crushed rose petals added to water spritizer for air freshners
talcum powder for smelly shoes to absorb any whiffs
denture tablets left over nit in the loo or sink will clean up any naughty stains
cider vinegar on amop will clean up any glass
vinegar and bakingsoda cleans metal if left over nite in a bowl
incense for meditation and creating calm atmospheres and nice smells..
I dont like any artificial smelly stuffs. My house is always clean, I just mop and dust and vacuum without using commercial cleaning stuff. (If you clean regularly you dont get a build up of muck that you cant clean off). Then, I leave my windows open and doors too, wherever possible. Cant beat fresh air smells!
Baking soda on my carpets
I keep things clean--not easy with 2 children, 2 cats and a dog.
I use natural orange scented cleaners.
My favorite is during colder weather I put out peppermint oil scented cotton balls. This does 2 things the house smells YUMMY!!and mice and rats hate the smell of peppermint. Even with the cats we would get an occasional rodent, but not any longer.
Good luck...
