I want to remove the scent of urine on a mattress can you help?
Question:I believe there is a paste you can use containing baking soda, but i don't know the other ingredients or texture to apply it.do you have other suggestions that may be helpful to me? Further, the purchase of another mattress is not an option at this point - it is a few days from new. Also, the sun isnt out alot nowdays so this is not really an option at the mo either. Thanking you in advance.
Answers:
The bad part of urine in a mattress is that it spreads out and soaks down, so surface sprays don't work all that well.
Most deoderizers work with water and require saturation, while sprays don't soak into the mattress.
There are a lot of products and methods out there, but you really need a combination of things.
There are some pet sprays that do a great job of neutrilizing urine, and won't harm the cloth covering. Frabreze and simular products will help also. Ordinary baking soda can be sprinkled heavily over the mattress and then a plastic mattress protector put on and then your bedding. After a few weeks vacuum the soda up, turn the mattress and sprinkle the other side.
Nursing homes have been fighting with the problem for years and nothing really kills the smell for good. Good Luck
go to the Oreck store.. they have a stain remover that gets out blood. all the way. just spray and gone with odor too..
vinegar, i think. If it works on that it will work on anything. (includes skunk stink)
Lots of ways documented here:

Try this
I've had a lot of luck with Febreeze. They have an extra strength that we use - spray the matress heavily and let it air out for the day. By night, the odor is gone. Also, a plastic matress protector helps mask some odors if the Febreeze doesn't do the job.
Good luck!
Dampen the soiled areas with water.
Sprinkle borax over the areas.
Rub the borax over the areas, working into mattress well.
Let dry.
My husband used to work in a hospital and they used Febreeze and Lysol on such stains. I would recommend buying a mattress pad to prevent future stains. My son's mattress would have been ruined a long time ago if he didn't have one, but it looks pristine after nearly three years.
Urin Odors:
To remove offensive odors from furniture and rugs: make a solution of 3 parts Vinegar to 7 parts water, pour in a spray bottle and spritz the area. Allow to air dry, in your case I'd suggest standing the mattress up, if you can open the windows, and spritzing one side lightly at a time. If you can't open the windows set a small fan up to blow onto the mattress, or turn on your ceiling fan, if you have one. Once the mattress is dry you should not have any remaining odors.
To remove offensive odors from linens: use one cup of Vinegar in your wash cycle, along with your usual detergent. This will not damage dark colored items, and will actually boost your usual detergent's ability to clean, as well as help remove tough stains!! The Vinegar will neutralize any smell and will not leave an odor once it drys.
Hope this helps.
