What happens if wash a pair of pants that says dry clean only?

Question:Serious answers only please

Answers:
It really depends on the material. I have washed dry clean only things before and it turns out fine, others have been ruined. If it is any kind of wool, DO NOT put in washing machine. It will shrink. Linen can kinda stretch out and lose it's shape. Some cotton blends actually are fine in the wash.

uhm...it ruins the fabric, or it might shrink
I think that it shrinks.
They explode in a fiery ball...oh, you said serious only, lol. Seriously, it may actually change the texture and/or color of the material. I would not recommend washing it.
depends on the material. I wash all my dry clean stuff regularly and it turns out fine. Maybe it will shrink, also if it's a sensitive material that could rip or change colour or leather that shouldn't be wet then i would actually dry clean it.
