How can I get a petrol stain/smell out of my jacket?
Question:Managed to get a large petrol on my jacket as my friend is a dufus with a leaking fuel tank. It hasnt come out in the wash and now my washing machine smells a bit of petrol. Any suggestions on how to get rid of both.

Oh no! Bad idea putting anything flammable into the washing machine! Trust me, I know on more than one occasion. Lol! But since you already did it, its going to be a longer procedure than throwing it into the washing machine.
First, you need to soak it in a 1/4 vinegar 3/4 water solution for about an hour.
After that, let your washing machine load up with the soap and water and add Shout! to it. Throw your jacket it in there for about an hour and then turn your machine on again and let it run through it's cycle. This should get the stain out of your jacket, or it should let your washing machine bust out in flames. Anyway, good luck to you!
On second thought, maybe, you should just get a new jacket. =D

wash your jacket in baking soda or get some 20 mule team.that should also get the smell out of the washing machine.

What ever you do , don´t put your jacket in the washing machine. You will then have trouble getting rid of the smell. Hang your jacket outside in the fresh air , the petrol will evaporate eventually
The Jacket Take it to a professional dry cleaner they have chemicals to neutralise this
The washing machine? up the temperature to max and pour double the dose of dishwashing liquid into the soap powder trays (both of them) place on full cycle.
Repeat.
Then run on full cycle max temp with no detergent in.
