I have a winter jacket and it is lined with Duck Feathers, it says hand wash only. Now it's a real pain to
Question:hand wash, do you think i could put it on a short wash cycle?(Duck feathers??) duck down!
Answers:
I would either call the manufacturer, and speak to customer service and tell them your problem.
Or you can go to a dry cleaning store that is reputable, and ask then what to do.
But my first choice would be to call the manufacturer. ABOVE ALL DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE, AND WASH IT IN THE WASHING MACHINE. EVEN ON THE MOST GENTLE CYCLE YOU WILL RUIN IT FOR SURE. I once tried it with a sweater that I loved, and put it on the most gentle cycle. Well the sweater was ruined.
With a down jacket, you can wash it on delicate. Dry it on little to no heat. When you dry it, you need to put something heavy in with it to keep the feathers spread evenly throughout the jacket. A shoe works good, but make sure it's a clean one.
The jacket may say hand wash because of the fabric or the lining though...
Take it to be professionally dry-cleaned, it's well worth the money. They know how to handle it. Remember you don't need to have a jacket cleaned more than once a year, before storing--unless it gets filthy for some reason like falling in the mud etc. or being puked on.
If you want to take a chance (because frequent cleaning is needed):
machine wash it in a mesh bag (the kind used for lingerie, etc. reduces abrasion from the agitator of the machine), short COLD water wash, delicate cycle.
If you want to fluff it in the dryer, you could add a CLEAN, unused tennis ball to help redistribute the feathers. Fluff it on air dry for a few minutes only and then line dry it the rest of the way.
