Maggots in the kitchen do I have to throw all my food away?
Question:I was cleaning behind the fridge and I found five or six maggots. Now, I've always heard that if you find five or six there are probably a zillion more. I am a fairly clean house keeper, so I think a piece of garbage snuck behind the fridge. But anyway, do I need to throw everything out?

If they were behind the fridge in absolutely no contact with food - then it is a pretty safe bet that your food in the fridge is fine - Use a 1 part bleach to 4 parts water to clean the entire area behind the fridge - that is the only chemical known to kill the little buggers - are you sure they are maggots and not termites? I would check into it especially if you are a homeowner...
No, maggots will only eat rotten food, so unless all the rest of your food is rotten, you are safe. I once had a plague of them come out of a plug because a mouse had died in the wall! Yuck! Just get them out of the house or they will hatch into flies.
urggghhh..it is fair to say that unless something is that rotten than only do you have maggots.i would really check the source of the maggots first..like the back of the fridge and any food that might have gone bad...etc etc.if there is none then only would i throw the perishable items..like cooked food in the fridge nothing of the frozen stuff though
No. If the maggots are outside the fridge then I don't think the food or anything else is affected. Just make sure that the garbage had been removed from behind the fridge. While you are at it, why not clean the whole fridge?
