Is it possible to get nail polish out of a wool pile rug?
Question:I accidently spilt clear polish...not alot..it didn't seen to be dirty but when I cleaned the rug there seems to be a dark streak where I dropped the polish.how do I get it out?

Maybe. Most fingernail polish uses acetone (the main ingredient of fingernail polish remover) as a solvent. You can buy acetone cheaply at hardware dealers and paint stores. It needs to be tested to make sure the rug is colorfast and it needs to be used in a well-ventilated area (fumes are toxic). Use a Q-tip to apply the acetone to the spill and blot quickly with a very absorbent paper towel. Acetone dissolves a lot of things, including many dyes. It also extracts moisture and oils from skin. Be careful with it.
Nail polish
Sponge with polish remover or banana oil. Wash. If stain remains, sponge with denatured alcohol to which a few drops of ammonia have been added. Wash again. Do - not use polish remover on acetate or triacetate fabrics.

If you try polish remover or what is suggested above, I'd suggest testing it on a small area of the rug that's not visible (like the underside) so that if it takes the color out of the rug, you can try something else.
