Smelly sink?
Question:My plughole in my kitchen sink smells at times and now i have noticed the same in my bathroom sink, how can i get rid of this and what is the cause??
Answers:
Its a build up of bacteria, before you go to bed pour a kettle of boiling hot water down it to flush any grease away and then put some bleach in and leave overnight !.
You could take off the u-bend and clean it out, it often gets clogged up with hair and soap. You could use chemicals, such as sink and plughole unblocker, but it's not so environmentally friendly.
try mixing vinegar with boiling water, then dump it down the drain, use drain unclogger first to make sure nothing is stuck in there.
I put a good glug of bleach down my plugholes and then follow that by bicarbonate of soda - this is a natural deoderiser. I let this sit for a little while and then pour boiling water down the plughole - this should get rid of any smells -
I promise!!
Sorry can't help you there, but i'm interested as my sink is minging!! Domestos isn't a lot of help!
It is usually a build up of congealed fats, hair and other rotting material, you can either remove the u bend section and clean it out or put a load of sink/drain cleaner down and flush through following the manufacturers instructions, but it will still be better to remove the u bend section and clean it
It is the build up of months and in some cases years of soap, bits and pieces of food and all the other stuff that gets washed down the plug hole - only thing to do is clean it out - but I can suggest a product (I'm not on commision - HONEST) that I use - POWER PLUMBER from Focus DIY - £9.99 - it is a spray that uses the sink water and freezes as it blasts thru the pipes - it literally blasts all the grime and grease out of the sink traps and pipes - you only use it for 1 second - that's all - in normal use it should last 2 - 3 years.
Just follow the instructions on the tin - it works
In your sink, there are probably old food particles that are stuck and are just rotting - which would explain the smell. I would recommend you get the water very, very hot, then pour some dish detergent down the hole and spray the hot water. Hopefully this will get the old bits down the pipe and will leave your sink smelling good. I usually do this every day - just a couple drops of dishwashing liquid will do it. If that doesn't do it, there could be a bigger clog so you'll want to use something to unclog the sink.
Hope this helps!
Go to your local hardware store and purchase "Spirits of Salts", use it as directed and it will clean the system and stop the smell.
Good Luck.
the cause is summer & the heat makes it pong
put toilet cleaner down the sink
i found this useful
use either bleach or lemon juice or rinse used coffee grinds down the sink..baking soda also works.it is becasue there is left over food bits in your sink drain that start to smell..always try to use the strainer to catch any food bits when you do dishes or rinse of plate then you can empty the strainer in the garbage and elimate the smell
Pour baking soda down the sink. Follow with plain vinegar. It'll foam and when the foam stops run hot water down the sink. This is an old remedy that works and you don't have to worry about ruining your pipes. It will smell like vinegar at first but the smell goes away quickly. Thanks for your question, it reminded me to freshen my sinks too. :)
Use soda crystals that you get in Tescos they work well, use them or put bleech down the plughole every night before you go to sleep, if you do that for a week it should help to get rid of the smell
The cause may be debris beginning to build up and becoming bad smelling. Try pouring a couple of pots of boiling water down the sinks. If that doesn't do the job then get some good quality drain opener (Drano) and see if that removes the bad smelling buildup.
blocked sewage or sumhting~?
try some bicard and lemons if not get dyno rod out to have a look xxx take care xx
Put bleach down your drain once every 2 weeks.
the smell is rotten food / hair / debris sitting in the u-bends / drain pipes and drain bowl (the cup thats under your sink) te best way to get rid of the smell is to unscrew that cup (make sure theres a bucket under the sink) remove the cup and clean it out - sorry it will stink like heck but thats the best way, pouring chemicals is not a solution as it wont get rid of whats in the bowl.
once clean, replace the cup, screw it back on tightly and then let the water run with some detergent in the sink. you can use cif cream if you want.
next step is to keep this bowl clean - try and clean it out once every 2 months
and please, invest in a strain for both your sink and bathroom, dont let hairs / solid food etc do down the drain. the lesser (crap) goes down the drain, the better maintained it will be
good luck
put about a cup of baking soda down the drain then follow w/ a bout a cup of vinegar..this will foam and get rid of gunk that sometimes makes the drain smell...you can do the as often as needed because it's all natural and safe..good luck
get a plumber to install or correct your sink traps
you should not get sewer smell if you have a sink trap
yeah
if your sink traps are installed but you are getting smelly odors, maybe your vent lines are plugged or clogged
mr muscle first flush then use domestos
A handful of washing soda crystals follewe by a kettle full of boiling water. If you this once a month it will also prevent clog ups
I usually pour a small amount of Disinfectant down my plugholes last thing at night it keeps them smelling fresh especially in the Summer
A lot of people who have answered have said to use boiling hot water - DON'T !! This will damage the seals in the traps under your sink and basin and then not only will you get smells you will also have leaks ! Firstly, i would unscrew the bottom of the trap (put a bucket under) and clean out the debris which is causing the problem, replace the trap, then put a diluted solution of Domestos down the sink or basin regularly. This will stop fats and soaps from being able to grip and keep everything smelling sweet and be hygienic.
pour some bleach down those drains girl! The smell is from a build-up of bacteria in your drain tubing and the bleach will kill the bactreria and also open up your drain so that they drain much better. You should make apractise of pouring about a cup f bleach down all of your various drains in your home each week.
