How do i remove rust from my cast iron frying pan??

Question:accidentally caught in rain at my camping site in maine,,got rusty!!But i luv em!!

Answers:
Use steel wool, and THEN rub it with oil.

Rub them down with cooking oil.
Well, get a SOS pad and scrub it. Than put oil in it with a paper towel, oil the entire skillet, place in hot oven for 1 hour with oven on 350. Turn oven off and leave skillet in till oven cools than take skillet out. Each time u use the skillet wash it and put it on stove top to dry it over medium heat and once all dry, use paper towel to apply cooking oil to inside of skillet and store it like that and it should never rust!! Some may say SOS pad is too abrasive..so u can use a plastic scrubber. but i used an SOS pad once on mine when it rusted!!
You should never wash an iron skillet with soap, so, take some salt and some water to make a paste to scrub the rust out of the skillet the best you can. Might use a steel wool.

Set skillet on top of stove
pour some water in it along with a bunch of salt.
let boil till water is gone and the salt starts to turn brown.
empty the salt out and wipe as clean as possible while the skillet is hot.
Take a paper towel and some cooking oil to rub on the inside and outside of the skillet.
place inside of the oven and let it cook on the iron. This is called curing.
Keep it oiled even when not in use, and only rinse out the skillet when it is piping hot to loosen up the residue on the bottom.
Boil it on top of the stove, scrape residue out, rinse with clear water then set on top of stove and add the salt and oil again until it smokes to be hot enough to kill bacteria. Wipe out, place oiled skillet in oven or storage cabinet.

You will never get all of the rust off of the skillet, that is the purest form of iron one can ingest.
I saw a show on TV this evening, where a woman had a rusty wok. The expert told her to cut a potato in half, spread some oil on the pan and then use the potato as a scouring pad. It removed all of the rust. Try that with the cast iron pan. Be sure to dry it thoroughly after you wash it, and coat it with a small bit of oil (with a paper towel.)
Scrub it first with hot soapy water, then get the rest with oil. Now you must temper your cast iron again.
steel wool and sos pads.
