Try spraying the area with WD-40, and allow it to soak for a lil bit. Then mix a solution of OXY-Clean in bucket of warm water (mix per instructions on container, per size of bucket). Then apply the OXY-Clean solution and scrub. This should help remove the excess oil causing your stain, and it should also help eliminate and residual stain. Good Luck.
When I had this happen, I used full strength 409 directly on the carpet, and used a brush to scrub it in and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then, I got a bucket with some really hot water in it and scrubbed the stain again to rinse it, then blotted the wetness with a towel. You may have to do it twice, but it worked for me.
I would try a hand cleaner like GoJO orange or maybe a degreaser ( but degreaser may hurt colour of carpet test small area of carpet) then shampoo with a rug shampoo machine You may have to do This a few times if its white carpet I doubt you will get it so you can't notice it..Be careful not to soak it or spread it around you can make the spot alot bigger PS if it wasn't you that made the mess get a professional to clean it and send the other person the bill. Removing oil and grease can be a real pain because of all the contaminants in it. ie. metals, dirt, rubber that's what makes it really hard to remove. Its not the oil or grease
If it is a small patch and still soft put some talc on it pat it in leave overnight then hoover off. If it has gone hard rub butter onto it. It will rub of in a horibble grey mess which needs to be rubber gently. Wash off with a solution of bicarbonate of soda, water and washing up liquid. Remember test the colour doesn't run before you wet the carpet. You may need to have several goes to get it clean. If it has soaked through then put some news paper underneath it if you can maybe that will draw the oil through before it has had chance to go hard then apply one of the above. Its a long job.
