Whats the best way to unblock a sink?

Question:I know its a bit of a boring question but I have tried products like Mr Muscle to unblock our sink and its still not worked - the water just drains really slowly. Any ideas? Any traditional remedies? Please help - Kate

Answers:
remove the trap.

its not uncommon for sand, plastic, or other materials that can't be chemically dissolved to lodge there.

after the trap is removed, in addition to cleaning the trap, run wire or a stick into the spout that leads off into the wall.

put lots of newspapers under work area.

A old fashioned plunger.
Drain snake, local rental center
Definitely the plunger, like the guy above says. I tried a snake, draino, everything under the sun on my shower drain, and nothing worked. My boss is pretty old and he said, "Eh whippersnapper, use a plunger." I finally gave in and tried the plunger, and it worked like a charm.

I hope this convinces you as well.
put down the plug hole 1 cup Bi cardonate of soda, 1 cup salt then pour over half cup of white vinegar. Take care as it is fizzy. Saw it on How clean is your house today!
dont put oil or fat down there in 1st place
take pipes apart make sure they are not stoped up
I agree with the plunger folks. My bathroom sink drained very very slowly. I plunged it for about 15 minutes and was amazed (and disgusted) at all the "gunk" it brought up. There is a newer form of plunger that is somewhat accordian shaped. It works really well.
Good luck.
i have found the best solution it very hot water
fill you kettler up let it boil then put down pulg hole
i also use some sort of foaming solution and lots of very hot water
C4 explosive with a twelve second fuse ?
When a sink is as blocked as yours sounds, forget Mr muscle and other things that you pour down the drain, they go nowhere near the blockage.
Unscrew the u-bend under the sink. Have a bowl under it to catch the water, it will only be a little.
You then need a piece of old hose pipe approx 2 metres in lenght. In the end of the hose pipe, force a bolt in so it is in tight, now use this to ram through the pipe going along under the sink/through the wall.
You should feel it when it hits the blockage. This will clear the pipes. You can buy a tool for the job but why spend money when you can do it for nothing.
It might pong a little so have some old rags to clean up.
It really depends on the kind of sink you are talking about.

A kitchen sick's main problem would be grease, for that 1 cup of baking soda followed by a 1 to 1&1/2 cups vinager then flush with at least two gallons of boiling water if not more. You know it is working, when you see little bits of black guck coming up out of the drain.

A bathroom sick's main problem would be hair and toothpaste, for this I use a something that I heard about right here on "Answers" Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, you can find it in the laudry detergent aisel of most grocery stories. Mix a cup, with a cup a water, stir and pour down the drain, wait about 15 mins, and then flush with about two gallons of hot water. There is some kind of enzyme that breaks down the hair, and softens the toothpaste. Works greats!
I use a plunger to unblock mine and you always have it. Products are a waste of money.
pour bleach into the drains
