Can you clean a mouldy duvet?

Question:I sent my duvet to be professionally cleaned. It came back in a plastic bag that I opened several months later, only to discover spots of mould all over one corner. Is there anything I can do or do I have to throw it out?

Answers:
Well, if you're going to throw it out anyway, you can experiment with a bathroom-type mold remover or bleach. Keep this stuff off your skin, and rinse well and immediately. It might work.

Mold can be toxic and dangerous. I would chuck it and buy a new one.
i would throw it out and buy a new one
yuk!!

defiantly bin it.

if you go to a large supermarket you can get one for around £15.

happy sleeping x
take it to laundrette and chuck in washing machine
Those spots will not come off. You can wash it, but they will remain. I guess it would depend on whether or not you could live with that, as to throwing it out or not.
I would most likely throw it out, it sounds rather dodgy, very unhealthy = BUT...you could take it up the local Laundrette and bung it on a very hot wash with some really good washing powder, Vanish, something like that and give it a go, if not .. put it down to a learning curve. Good luck!
You don't say whether it is a man made one or a feather/down one.
If it is man made, bin it, they are so cheap to replace.
A good quality down one that cost hundreds should be saved. I have washed mine in the laundrette with no problems. Trying to get it out of the dryer after it had fluffed up was another matter!.
A good dry cleaner can recover it for you and re stuff it with feathers if necessary, sounds daft really because you have a new duvet.
I found a cleaning agent that gets rid of mold so you won't have to throw your duvet away. It's called Thieves. I've used it on mold in my house and it's never come back. If you're interested in it then go to www.moldrx4u.com That's where you can get it at. I've been using it since the beginning of this year and I love it. Try it out and see what you think.

if poss hang up duvet and then sponge corner with Ace bleach. Leave on to take effect - only active about 20mins i believe - then sponge off with cold water. you may not totally eradicate spots, but when dry duvet will be ok to use again. Ace is not like ordinary bleach, it wont take out the colour. mould should only be on surface. try Kim and Aggie website where you can ask questions.
Evidently the cleaners had to leave wetness on your duvet and being closed in the plastic helped produce the mold. I don't know what yoiu can do. I've just gotton over an awful mold problem and had to throw everything out. But you should let the cleaners know. bettyk
The cleaners have put the duvet in teh bag whist still wet and therefore are negligent . Take it back to the cleaners and tell them you wated the duvet cleaned for storage hence the late opening.
Best get rid of it...if the cleaners cant do anything, cant think of anything else.
Try any/all the above but leave it to dry in full sunlight, mould does not like heat and light. But I agree the cleaners would seem liable ask at Citizens Advice.
