Step OneTo do laundry, first sort your dirty clothes, making separate piles for whites, bright colors and darks. If you mix whites with colors in the wash, the colors may bleed onto and ruin your whites. Also separate clothes that tend to produce lint (towels, sweatshirts, chenille and flannel) from clothes that tend to attract lint (corduroy, velvets and permanent-press clothes
This site will give you some tips...Good Luck! =)
hmm, funny that we should be doing laundry at the same time! first of all, personally, i seperate them by color, mostly. i do blues (including jeans), blacks, tans and greens, whites, and reds. i only have white and red towels, but i dont wash them together, because i dont want red and pink towels. personally, i just throw them all in there, with less soap than is recommended (because you dont really need that much) turn it on warm or hot, and let it go. eventually you will get used to doing laundry yourself. make sure you pull lighter items out of the washer to hang dry, especially bras (so the padding doesnt wad up) lacey items, or knits or flimsy blouses.
good luck, and if all else fails, read the tags!
You know you have to separate everything. That's a good start. I wash everything in cold water. I have 5 kids, and all sorts of laundry. You're light colors, white t-shirts, undies, light tan, and socks, can all go together. Reds/greens can go together in another load. Since I have so much laundry, I can make a separate black and blue load, but those colors can be washed together. Jeans, if their good ones, should be turned inside out, but if they are just everyday jeans, just leave them alone. About once a month I wash the socks, t-towels and undies in hot water and bleach them. Sheets are their own load as well as towels. Again, you can use cold water. I use Tide with Bleach. To pre-treat, use something like "Shout" or "Spray and Wash". I have soft water so it's not necessary to use as much detergent as it calls for, but if you have hard water, then use as much as they say. Also if the water is hard, you may want to add a fabric softner. This is done by either pouring it in the softner cup with a cup of water, or your can use one of those softner balls that you throw in at the beginning of the wash. Otherwise you add the softner during the rinse. Be careful when you dry as too hot and you'll just ruin your fabrics after a month or so. It's drys faster, but not worth it. To avoid ironing, hangs things up as soon as the dryer beebs. If you have something that is wrinkled and it's more or less a wash and wear item, hang it up and get a squirt bottle and get it damp again, then just let it hang outside or in the bathroom. The wrinkles will fall out. Most washers have a "delicate" cycle. It saves so much time, I love it. Nylons, bras, slips, all the stuff you don't want to put in a reg. wash. Get some Woolite for those loads. For babies, wash their diapers in hot water using a baby detergent like Ivory or Drift. Use a second rinse too. For their clothes, sheets, towels, blankets and such, again use cold water with either Drift or Ivory. I also always used a softner for them, but watch that their delicate skin doesn't react to it. Oxyclean is a great product to get tought stains out. It's best when you soak things in it, then wash the item. I hope this helps. Good luck.
