It could be carpet if you have any. Do you hang up wet clothes to dry in the house instead of placing them in the dryer? There is moisture somewhere in the house, need to find the source before the smell will go away.
charcoal placed in disposable containers (coffee cans, etc) put in inconspicuous places...i.e. under the bed, in the closet, etc. may help.
vinegar in small bowls placed around a room will help to absorb odors.
house plants often help as well.
when you can open doors and/or windows do so and allow some fresh air in.
hope this helps.
Baking Soda!! It works to put on carpet and then vacuum up. Also to put in small bowls around the house ie: under couch, bed, dresser, pantry, behind toilet, or anywhere! you do have to replace the soda every month but it does keep the smells down. Using Vinegar and doing the same thing is another way to keep musty smells away.
Don't rule out mold and find out if there is a water problem. Baking soda is a good suggestion for carpets, under bathroom sink and in refrigerators.
