My dishwasher smells really bad inside. How can I get the smell out?
Question:
Answers:
There are cleaners I think you can buy at places like Walmart and Target that you put in there to clean it. Not the normal dishwasher soap, but likely in the same isle.
Tell your girlfriend not to shower in there anymore...
Try buying that new dish soap with bleach in it, sorry I cannot think of the name, but it will kill the bacteria that is making it smell!
we ran a vinegar rinse through twice
Put arm and hammer baking soda in it and run a short rinse.
it will smell sweet in no time.
When mine started smelling terrible, ran a few cycles through with VERY hot water and bleach (no machine detergent). It killed the smell immediately. You could also try running a cycle through with hot water and baking soda. It naturally absorbs foul odors, and will not leave you with an offensive chemical smell of other cleaners.
There are a couple of things that you can try.
-Go ahead and put in the soap in one place but put baking soda in the other soap container.
-You can also use vinegar for one or two cycles & then run it again with regular dish soap
Baking powder works. Vinegar does too. Run each one through a cycle and see if this helps?
I am not into buying chemicals but there might be one out there if you do?
Hope this helps..
I use a cup of clorox and set the diswasher in a normal cycle wash. The results are a sparkling diswasher that smells clean.
You could put bleach in the hole where the dish detergent goes and let it run, or you could just take out the pieces of it that seperate from the rest of the machine and soak them in bleach and then clean them
put drain cleaning fluid down it...that will clear any smells or blockages
pour vinagar in it and run it through whole cycle. I would run it throught once more with just some cascade or some type of dishwasher detergent.
the vineger thing, and the baking soda thing and the bleach thing all work. but open up your dishwasher once and then look down by the hinges of where the door opens. theres bound to be this weird brown stuff that doesnt actually get washed off when you run a cycle to clean it. scrub that part off too, and you be all set.
check and make sure theres no food stuck in the bottom... try this remedy... white vinegar about a cup on a hot wash cycle.make sure the dishwasher is empty... you can also try a little bleach in the same manner... l
Dumping vinegar down the drain while it's running works and also try slicing up a lemon into pretty small slices (maybe thin enough to get six-eight slices) and chopping them up in the disposal.
How To Clean A Smelly Dishwasher
First finding out why your dishwasher smells, would be the first step. It could be some of the following things: an improperly installed garbage disposal, a burnt out heating element, or a deteriorating rubber seal around the door. If there is food and gunk which has collected around the drain area, use a Mini Brush to clean it out. Explore these options, if the smell does not go away call a dishwasher repairman. It is always good to give your dishwasher a vinegar treatment every once in awhile. Start your dishwasher with nothing in it. Let it fill up and before it starts to wash add 1 cup of vinegar and let the cycle continue.
Tip: Things you should never put in the dishwasher: Antique or hand painted china, good crystal glasses or milk glass, Pewter or sterling silver, Cast iron, cooper, or tin pans, good knives, plastic containers or appliances, wooden dishes. Gel type detergents are preferred by many. But actually powdered gets of dried foods better and prevents spotting.
Tip: If the coating is wearing off of the wire area in your dishwasher use some silicone caulking to cover them back up, or they will rust.
run it empty..no soap..just 1 cup of white vinegar
Bleach will eat the sealing ring..
Lemon Juice. It's the best for eliminating kitchen odors. In the garbage disposal, fridge, and definitely the dish washer!
put that...um...liquidy..thingy... what ev.. inside it.(That smells good.)
Run a cup of bleach or vinegar depending on the smell .There are products made for cleaning dishwashers,
you can clean the dish washer like three times a day for a week or buy a new one.
Run a cycle with either a 1/2 cup of bleach or 1 cup of white vinegar. That's what I do and it cleans and clears the hard-water built up. It also leaves it smelling fresh.
First thing.. remove and clean all food traps and filters.. wipe out the inside of the machine making sure there is nothing stuck in an crevise (especially around the door area)
Open the jet dry compartment in the door check for stuck in stuff...
1 cup lemon Juice, 1 cup Baking Soda, 1 cup bleach... Place in dishwasher and run through a cycle.I find placing all the stuff in a large glass bowl on the bottom shelf so it doesn't get sucked out in the initial water pump out works best...
wash a load with no dishes and mix the soap with bleach or vinegar and water also spray some lysol in there it helps alot with odors
Run a few empty cycles w/ either bleach, baking soda, vinegar, or a dishwasher cleaner (u can buy them at Walmart etc. just like u can buy oven cleaner) Depending on what is making it smell (bacteria, stuck food, etc.) one of those will make the smell go away.
run it with vinegar or baking soda where you would put the soap
This was the most disgusting problem I had when I moved into my house...it would have been better for me to buy a new dishwasher I imagine. Here's what I did:
1. wiped out the intire dishwasher
2. took a razor blade and scrubby to get all of the crap that was caked under the door and in all of the hidden areas. (grime, grease, and gunk was everywhere that the eye could not normally see)
3. Filled a large bowl with vinegar and placed it in the bottom rack (bowl up so the vinegar stays in)
4. Ran the dish washer through a cycle
5. Bought dishwasher cleaner (found with the dishwasher detergent) and ran it through a cycle.
I have not had a problem or smell since then, good luck
