Paint Thinner and elbow grease...

whatever you do, do not put nail polish remover on it. nail polish remover makes holes in EVERYTHING.
Mineral spirits at home depot
When I was in high school I spilled bright red nail polish on the carpet in my room. I tested a little section with NON ACETONE polish remover to make sure it didn't melt the carpet, then I used Q-Tips to lift the polish very carefully. Over the course of a few attempts I got most of it out. Acetone will melt the carpet fibers. Try it out in an inconspicuous area first.
if ur carpet is shaggy then try cuting it
comb and rubbing alcohol worked for me I have also used an ice cube and a comb. on shag you can try "wearing it off" with your thumb and fingers- just keep twirling. the grease from your fingers sometimes loosens it from the fabric. I have done this in other peoples houses and "sweat bricks" each time. You can't get me near a bottle of that stuff anymore!
Goo B gone is the best. After you get it out pour some baking soda or salt on the spot to get the excess oil out. It should all come out pretty quickly.
