Question:i borrowed a garment bag to take on a trip and it smells awful like mildew i dont want the clothes i hang in it to stink and i have to use it i am leaving on a flight in the morning any help and i already sprayed it with fabreeze it doesnt do anything!
Answers:
bleach will kill it!
try spraying with lysol
wrap your clothes in a garbage bag, and place in the stinky garment bag.
Don't use it!
I would turn it inside-out and try sticking in the washing machine. (Get permission from the person who lent it to you first.)
If it's a mostly plastic, synthetic material, you should be able to add a couple of capfuls of bleach to help get the odor out.
Best of luck!
Mildew is a spore and will keep coming back. Use bleach to kill it. Try a pouch of potpourri after you clean it to keep it smelling fresh.
put all of your clothes in trash bags and seal with masking tape you can put a dryer sheet inside each bag if you want to. then put the trash bags of clothes inside the garment bag that stinks. I assume you do not want to get the garment bag wet in anyway cause it will not dry in time for your flight.
Good luck
I like the lysol deal. spray it out and wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry. You can see if the dry cleaners can do something, if it's worth it. they are pretty good about those things.
get a hefty bag poke a hole in the top for the hooks and close the draw string on the bottom and add duck tape
or go to walmart now
Have you tried a new freshener called Oust? It not only freshens the air but it eliminates odors too!
I hate to say this but if its mildewed --you probably don't have the time to get the smell out if you are leaving in the morning. You might try putting fresh coffee inside it and cleaning it with vinegar. Charcoal briquets sometimes will remove odor but good old sunshine for a long while would do more good and a wash down with vinegar and peroxide--only if you had the time-- Don't put your clothing into a mildewed bag- if you have to pack in a paper or plastic bag --Your clothing will get the smell in them and it will linger on them.
Take a bowl and fill it with 1/4th cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water, and wipe it all down inside and out, leave it for about 15 minutes and then dry, make sure its dry let it stay opened all night and in the morning put the clothes in. Vinegar is an odor eater and should do the job.
Lysol may work. I would turn the bag inside out and clean it with hot vinegar and let it dry out. You don't have to soak the bag, but it wil need to air out after using the vinegar. Once it is dry then spray it with lysol to help get rid of the vinegar smell. I used it on one of my backpacks one time, and it worked well, but I had a bit more time to let the bag dry.
