Polishing silver with a cloth the old fashioned way?

Question:I will have time to kill. I have an old solid silver 'straw'. Is there a best type of rag or cloth to rub away at silver to get it back to it's beautiful silver color from black? I have time to kill, but don't want to waste my efforts. Anyone know?

Answers:
aluminum pan salt and aluminum foil
check it online
put water, salt and foil in pan heat up
touch silver to foil

Use something very soft like an old t-shirt or piece of flannel. I would also suggest a good silver polish.
Silvo, inexpensive and it totally works, and an old flannel cloth...I have used old baby receiving blankets for this purpose...only use dabs of polish, too much is ineffective...
