Ticks in bedding?
Question:I found a small brown dog tick on one of my kids, and after searching them found one adult female in my bedding. I need to know the best and most effective way to wash my bedding. I'm pretty sure that the female hadn't had a chance to lay any eggs, but just to be sure I need to wash all the bedding and clothes that it could have come in contact with. We do have a dog but after searching him didn't find any tick(he has a tick collar on). Please help.
Answers:
try washing the bed clothes in hot water
are you sure it's a tick ? if it's a bed bug you may be in for problems..
if you find another try to get a professional to identify it
the hottest water possible and antibacterial soap
hot water, you can use clorox in there if the sheets are white.
The best way to tickle, i mean tackle the job is to steam clean the beddind
dude i know the feeling!!! my boyfriend went fishing and a few days later i was sorting out the laundry to wash it and found 2 deer ticks in the clothes! i freaked!!! i cant stand bugs.. i also have a dog and a 8 month old baby. i told him to put his fishing clothes in a garbage bag.. to not mix icky fishing clothes with my clothes and to make sure he didnt bring any bugs home with him.. but yea he didnt listen...i would wash everything down that you can with hot water. and some bleach...if possible.. there is also a flea and tick spray that i bought at petsmart. or a pet store in your area... i sprayed my mattress down with this. i know that none of the ticks made it to my bed but i REALLY hate bugs! keep an eye on the dog... and on the kids!...we live in Illinois and we get deer ticks which are really gross! get the tick spray at the pet store and spray you mattress and let it air out before putting sheets back on it. i really feel for you i dont think i slept that night kept feeling things on my legs that werent there! good luck!
Washing sometime might not be good enough. They can lay eggs very quick and can live without food, air, or water for 6 months at a time. I used to work for a motel a long time ago and there is a spray you can use that is safe for humans, and it kills all the bedbugs. It has been a long time so i don't remember what it was called, but just go on-line and do a search and I'm sure you will find it. Be sure to look in the corners of your house, and the corners of the seams of your beds, these bugs will poop like blood spots on you beds. They love to hide in dark folds of the beds, so look close, they also leave sores on you when they feed, so look for spots or sores on your arms and body.
